Tim Gilmore, age 75, passed away August 10, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital after sudden illness. Tim was born February 16, 1948 to Ken and Betty Jane (Galbreath) Gilmore. Tim grew up in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He then moved to the Mansfield area in High School. Tim was a graduate of Akron University with a BA in Education. Tim was a teacher and coach teaching at Crestline and Wadsworth before settling in Willard for the duration of his 35-year career.

Tim is survived by his wife Sandy (Aukerman) Gilmore of 47 years, daughter Sara Cofer (Eric Fiest), son Adam (Dareth) Gilmore, twin brother Greg (Paula) Gilmore, brother-in-law Don (Betty) Aukerman, grandchildren Madison, Gabe, Cael, Brielle, Ciaran, and Georgia; nieces and nephews, Mandy (Brandon) Singer, Chad (Megan) Gilmore and Hannah (Jon) Souza; great nieces and great nephews.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken, infant sister Linda.

Tim was a total family person, showering time and attention on his children and grandchildren. Tim coached and supported his own children in wrestling, softball, baseball, and volleyball. Following them through their college career.

Tim had so much love for his grandchildren. Tim and his camera followed them to the ends of the earth and back for of course wrestling but also softball, soccer, baseball, football, swimming, cross country, golf, track, and gymnastics. Tim loved watching them compete always encouraging. Coaching tips also found their way into the conversation.

At the end of each year Tim would then create a Shutterfly book for each child. Lots of pictures, lots of bragging, and lots of statistics about each child. This book was their favorite Christmas gift each year.

Tim loved wrestling. His career started when he was a freshman at Mansfield Madison High School for coach Tom Ellis and continued at Akron University. After competing, he spent the rest of his life dedicated to the sport, taking turns going back and forth from coaching and officiating.

As a coach, Tim coached at many levels. A majority of his time was spent coaching high school, but he always willing to help at the youth and middle school levels. He was an intense coach who taught his athletes to get the most from themselves and what it meant to be "student of the sport".

In addition to coaching, Tim spent 30 years as an official where he was selected to officiate at 13 Ohio High School State Tournaments. He was inducted into the Ohio Wrestling Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1998 with his twin brother, Greg. Upon retiring from officiating in 2015, Tim continued to give back to the sport by evaluating officials. He spent countless hours observing and writing reports for officials at regular and post season tournaments in order to help the next wave become great.

Tim loved the wrestling community and the friendships that he made along the way.

Calling hours will be at the Christian Alliance Church, 1609 Conwell Ave., Willard, Ohio 44890, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 AM with Donny Varvel officiating.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Local Schools with memo:  Jeremy Ammons Memorial Wrestling Scholarship and mailed to Highland Middle School, 6506 St. Rt. 229, Merango, Ohio 43334, C/O Adam Gilmore.  Online condolences may be made to Tim’s family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com

At a loss for words. He always had a smile on his face, a great man.
Laith Henke and Family - Aug 16, 2023
Even as we all have aged, it is difficult not to address him as anything other than, “Coach Gilmore”. It is that precedence of "Coach" which invokes teacher, supporter, friend, etc, etc, etc Rest assured, Gilmore family. "Coach" left life lasting impressions and lessons instilled within me. I’m confident he did that with many-many others. I’m honored and proud to explain, that I'm now able to pass those onto my children and beyond. Heaven certainly gained some STURDY here, although I'm confident will be missed. R.I.P. Coach!!! Keeping Gilmore Family and Friends in Prayer!
Jeff Crosby - Aug 16, 2023
My deepest sympathy to Sandy, Sarah, Adam and family. My memories of Tim are so full of the best times of our lives. Whether it was officiating a match; listening to Tim tell a joke in the locker room; actually reffing one of Adam's matches; doing a Willard match that Tim was coaching or family get togethers at Lyles house. Tim was a very special friend that will be missed throughout the wrestling community. GOD Bless my friend

Jim Vreeland - Aug 15, 2023
Tim lived his life with great class, honesty, dignity, respect for others and especially the sport he so loved. His dedication to coaching wrestling was only surpassed by his devotion to officiating wrestling. He developed countless friendships through his involvement in Ohio wrestling, and many will miss him around a wrestling mat. Tim truly did pay it forward, for those he mentored will carry on his skills on the mat. Ohio wrestling will miss his presence and I will miss my dear friend.
Dave Hirschy - Aug 15, 2023
On behalf of my dad, brother and me, we send heart felt condolences to Sandy and the family. Coach was such a great guy. He always had a smile, warm greeting, and often a good joke when I saw him. His laugh was infectious! Any athlete that walked the halls at Willard was one of "his guys"! He was very supportive. He'll be missed. Rest in Peace, Coach Gilmore.

I was very sorry and surprised to hear about Tim's passing. He was my high school wrestling coach, weightlifting coach, mentor, and role model. While I'm sad that I haven't kept in touch over the years, I cannot overstate just how much Tim positively impacted my life at that critical age. From taking me to summer wrestling tournaments or weightlifting in his basement - whatever level of commitment I showed for an activity, he more than matched it in his support. And he went far out of his way a couple of times in high school to keep me out of trouble and steer me in the right direction. I hate to imagine where I may have ended up without his leadership and counsel. And I know there are so many others with similar stories. Thanks, Coach, for taking the time to make a difference. You leave behind an enormous legacy. God bless Sandy and the family 🙏.

A great family friend and mentor to both my brother Greg and myself. Truly one of the people that always made my Dad laugh and smile. Hadn’t talked to Tim in awhile then about a year ago needed some parenting advice and he called me as soon as he got my message just the type of person he was. Dear Sandy, Sara and Adam, Tim Gilmore was one of the most memorable pranksters and jokers I have ever known and he made every day at Willard High School more fun. I can still hear his infectious laugh as it echoed down the 400 hallway. If your classroom door mysteriously slammed in the middle of a class period, you could be pretty sure Tim Gilmore had been walking past your room in the seconds beforehand. Tim Gilmore WAS wrestling at WHS- his athletes respected him because he pushed them to demand a lot from themselves. And there were the jokes….always the jokes! He seemed like a tough guy on the outside, but he was a softie on the inside and I truly loved working with him. Some of the fun left WHS the day he retired. When I think of Tim, I see him in his yellow Corvette and I remember the day I let my seniors out of class to wrap his SUV in big rolls of paper from the art room-the one and only time we were able to “prank” him! I am truly saddened at his passing and I hope these memories make you smile. Willard has lost a good, good man, but I bet Heaven is a lot More fun today. My sincere condolences to you and your families.

Sandy, Sara, Madison, Gabe, We are so deeply saddened to learn of Tim's passing. It doesn't seem fair. I was reading my old messages from Tim from Facebook and remembering how full of life he always has been and I thanked God that we had the privilege to get to know him over the years and how supportive he was of our kids and everyone else's as if they were his own. My walls are filled with photos he took of Kelis playing soccer over the years with Madison and how he was always so encouraging to my kids and me when they experienced the good and the bad. I am so thankful for the memories and his legacy will forever live on in each and every one of our hearts forever and ever. He was a great man and so loved by all. Praying for you all and hoping for your peace in the coming days as he is laid to rest. Thank you Tim for everything! Wish I could say it to him one last time. Julie, Eddie, Kelis, Kilynn and Kameron
