Russell Joseph Niedermeier, age 81, of Willard, Ohio passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Willard Mercy Hospital in Willard, Ohio. He was born February 26, 1930 in Attica, Ohio to the late George E. and Arvilla R. (Wechter) Niedermeier. He retired from the B&O Railroad and was also a farmer. He graduated form Willard High School. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, Ohio where he was their first deacon, helped with Mass and distributed communion at the local nursing homes for 30 years. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus in Willard. He was a volunteer at the Willard Mercy Hospital and had saved many lives by his generous donation of 16 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Christine ( Lucas) Niedermeier, whom he married September 25, 1954; son, Joseph E. (Tanya) Niedermeier of Willard and a daughter, Pamela M. Niedermeier of Willard; 8 grandchildren, Taran, Shaun, Emily, Joshua, Chelsea, Bree, Kaitley and Brayden; 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert ( Patricia) Niedermeier of Willard and Harold Niedermeier of Plymouth; sister, Mary Alice Nadeau of Monroe, MI; several nieces and nephews
He is preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Arvilla R. (Wechter) Niedermeier; sister, Sister Arline Niedermeier; sister-in-law, Mary Niedermeier; brother-in-law, Art Nadeau
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio, where there will be a prayer service at 7:45 P.M. The funeral mass will be Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, Ohio. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard, Ohio, with military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or to the Willard Mercy Hospital. Chris and family…was saddened to hear of Russ’s passing. Such a giving and caring man he was. Always ready to give a helping hand to those in need. He will be missed by a lot of people. Russ is now in the kingdom of God where there is nothing but pure joy and happiness. Russ will be forever remembered by the pharmacy staff at Mercy Willard Hospital. He faithfully volunteered his time to help make our jobs easier. In my 10 years at Mercy, I have truly enjoyed our time together every Tuesday and Thursday. Russ was part of our hospital family and he will always hold a special place in our hearts…he will never be forgotten.
