Roman Kai Lopez’s number of days were written in the Lord’s book before he was one day old. He entered the world at 6:40 a.m. on August 5, 2022 and he gently passed into heaven at 6:53 a.m. We are comforted in knowing the first face he saw when he opened his eyes in heaven was Jesus.
Roman was a little boy who, though he only lived for 13 minutes, left a permanent mark on many hearts. Examining his features to determine which parent he favored it was quickly noted with his black curly hair, nose, chin, jawline and forehead all looking very similar to Hannah that she was the victor. This was confirmed when Sergio had shouted, “Hannah he’s got your nose!” His big hands and feet were proof though that he had gotten features from Sergio as well. We know with all of our hearts that the perfection we saw on the outside is now matched on the inside and he is laughing and running through a grassy field in the light of heaven playing with a soccer ball just like his daddy would have taught him to do here on earth.
Roman is survived by his mother and father, Hannah McKenzie and Sergio Lopez. Grandparents- DJ Newman and Amber McKenzie, Florentino Lopez and Mercedes Mazariegos. Aunts- Abigail Newman, Andrea Lopez, Jessica Lopez, Erica Lopez. Uncles-Nelson Lopez and Gabriel Newman. Great Grandparents- Angel Lopez and Herminia Morales Gonzalez, Larry and Tammy McKenzie and Brenda Newman. Great Great Grandparents Arnel and Marlene Blair and Alice Walker. Great Aunts-Miranda (Jay) Hintz, Rachel Newman and Allison (Eric) Linstrum. Great Uncles Jimmy Lee Newman, Jacob (Bobbi) McKenzie and Caleb (Sarah) McKenzie. Great Aunts of the Lopez and Mazariegos as well as the Great Uncles of Lopez and Mazariegos family. Great Great Aunts and Uncles of both sides and numerous cousins too many to name as well.
He is proceeded in death by his Great Grandpa David Newman, Great Great Grandpa Jimmy Triplett, Great Grandpa Pedro Mazariegos and Great Grandma Benita Roblero. We know in our hearts they greeted him upon his arrival to heaven and waits for us there.
Despite our hearts being broken and feeling deep sorrow our hope remains in the Lord and we will hold him in our arms again.
Sergio and Hannah want to thank Dr. Kasten (FTMC) and his staff, Dr. Saleh (ACH), Akron Children’s Maternal Fetal Medicine and the Palliative Team and Dr. Kaleda, pediatrician (FTMC), Tienne of Sufficient Grace Ministries and the L&D department and nurses at FTMC for their direction, expertise and grace over the last 8 weeks.
A private service will be held for close family. Secor Funeral Home in Willard is honored to be assisting Roman’s family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to The Kidney Foundation. Online condolences can be left for the family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com.
Lamentations 3:20-23
20
I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.
21
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
22
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.
23
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
