Richard David Newland, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio.
Beloved husband of Donna (Jacobs) Newland for 62 years. Loving father of Denise Phillips, Douglas (Stacy) Newland, Dawn (Danny) Pauley, all of Willard, Diane Newland and Chris Slane of Fremont; and daughter-in-law, Barb (Holbrook) Newland of Willard; 13 grandchildren, Rachel (Charley) Eberly, Amy Newland (Lee Fanning), Ben (Becky) Newland, Brent Phillips, Lindsay (Brad) Morgan, Gabriel Newland, Jaclyn Newland, Clay Newland, Nicole (Justin) Gibson, Jeffery (Dusty) Pauley, Valerie (Noah) Tucker, Alex Schriner and Laurence Newland; and 12 great grandchildren, Hunter, Brenna, Kerstyn, Chase and Evan Eberly; Zachary and Natalee Newland; Cameron Morgan, Annastasia Newsome, Kylee Gibson, Thomas and Emmilyn Tucker.
He is preceded in death by his son, David Newland, brother James Newland, sister Patricia Trushel, and sister-in-law Evelyn Lydy.
He was born in Willard, Ohio on October 27, 1937 to the late James Newland and Bertha Mae Lathrop. After high school, he proudly enlisted in the U.S Navy, where he served during the Korean War. He brought his family back to Willard in 1965, and was employed by the B&O Railroad, retiring in 2001.
He was a dedicated man of faith and a member of the United Church of God in Mansfield and Cleveland and the American Legion in Willard. He was also Chairman for the United Transportation Union. Dick, as he was known, loved spending time with his family, church family, and friends at Uncle Dudley's. He was known for his storytelling and great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Friends may gather at the Christian Alliance Church, US 224 East in Willard, on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM, where the funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Len Martin officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Willard. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio.
