Paul D. Back, age 71 of 3 Seymour Street, North Fairfield, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 14, 1934 in Bays, KY to the late Marlen and Bessie (Roark) Back.
Paul graduated from Lees Jr. College and Morehead University in KY, receiving his teaching degree. He taught in KY from 1955-1960. In 1960 he came to Ohio, teaching at South Central until 1974, then teaching at Willard till 1997 where he retired after 42 years. He also taught the adult Sunday School class for many years. He was a member of Ripley Chapel. Paul enjoyed gardening, flowers, and decorating cakes.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lavottis (Dyer) Back; two daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Mull of Willard and Linda Back of North Fairfield. He also leaves behind a very special grandson, Daren Mull of Willard. Three sisters, Grethel Sallee of Willard, Reval Montgomey, and Evalena Puckett of Michigan. Three brothers, Gene Back of KY, Ronald Back of Georgia and Melvin Back of Florida.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mable, Letha, Ruth, Mary and Wanda; and brothers, Luther, Arthur, Marlen Jr., Frank and Adolph.
True greatness is determined by the love and devotion one gives and receives in their everyday contact with their family, friends and neighbors. Our home will be lonesome without Dad. His voice we’ll hear no more, but the memory of Dad will always remain in our lives. We feel that our loss is heaven’s gain.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard on Friday, January 13, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Harold Gray, Rev. Ralph Farmer and Rev. William Valentine officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
