Maurice Grant Zaebst, age 94, resident of New Washington, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at the Village Care Center in Galion, Ohio. He was born on November 24, 1912 to the late Fred and Clara (Kessler) Zaebst and had been a resident of New Washington most of his life. He had worked at the Pennsylvania Railroad in New Washington for 36 years and then 10 years at the Norfolk & Western Railroad. He was also a custodian for the Buckeye Central High School in New Washington for 7 years. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Golden Gems in New Washington, OH.
He is survived by four daughters, Gwen Ehrman of New Washington, Marilyn and Robert Kanney of New Washington, Karen and Larry Feichtner of Mansfield, and Dawn and Rick Weiss of Mansfield; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia E. (Poffenbaugh) Zaebst; his parents, Fred and Clara (Kessler) Zaebst; son-in-law, Bill Ehrman; one brother Irvin Zaebst; one infant brother, Russell Zaebst; and five sisters, Ocie May, Hazel Palmer, Gladys Moon, Doris Duschtke, and Florence Carle.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2007 from 6-8 P.M. at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington and Wed. from 10-11 A.M at the St. John’s Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington, with Rev. Joseph Bartczak officiating. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington. Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church, The Historical Society or to the Donor’s Choice.
