Mary M. Abston, age 87, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Willows at Willard Care Center. She was born on November 27, 1930 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to the late Earl F. and Cora C. (Coon) Herron and had been a resident of Willard since 1960. Mary was a 1948 graduate of Waynetown High School and had worked for H&R Block in Willard for over 25 years as the office manager. She was a very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Willard and the Car Coddlers Club of Ohio. Mary was loved by those who knew her for her quick wit, her sugar cookies, her berries and homemade jams, her parties, and her pictures.
She is survived by her husband, Norman F. Abston, whom she married on August 3, 1951; three children, Sharon (Larry) Wingert of Willard, Susan (Richard) McCumber of Lexington, OH, and Steven (Susan) Abston of Naples, FL; five granddaughters, Linda (Jim) Drath of Hudsonville, MI, Lori (Andy) McDonald of Rockford, MI, Shawn (James) Newsome of Willard, Renee Abston of Naples, FL, and Elizabeth McCumber of Santa Monica, CA; 9 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Rutledge of Mellott, IN, two brothers, William Herron of Indianapolis, IN, and Jackie Herron of Waynetown, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Ralston and Jane Whipple; and a brother, Charles Herron.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Pastor Andy Ruppert officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, Ohio.
