Larry H. McClung, age 90, resident of Mansfield, Ohio entered into glory on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Wedgewood Estates in Mansfield. He was born on December 24, 1932 in Orient Hill, West Virginia to the late Leonard and Maude (Crane) McClung.
In March of 1953, Larry was drafted into the United States Army where he spent approximately two years in Germany. While serving, he was able to obtain his High School Diploma in 1954. Upon his return home, he studied technical math and blue print reading at North Central in 1986, obtained his journeyman license in 1987 and also participated in an electrical program through General Motor’s Employee Development Program in 1990. He went on to work for General Motor’s for 36 years, retiring in January of 1995.
Being loyal and committed to his family started very early in life for Larry. His father served in WWII and at 10 years old, Larry learned the value of working hard as he helped his mother to provide for her and his siblings. As Larry’s own family began, he instilled those traits in his children and grandchildren, all of whom he was so proud of.
A true outdoorsman, Larry could be found tinkering in his garden, walking in the woods or just driving through the country. He was a walking encyclopedia who enjoyed learning about history. Larry was a true gentleman who wanted to help anyone in need.
Larry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at OhioHealth Hospice and Wedgewood Estates for the love and care they gave to Larry.
Affectionally called Papa by those who love him, Larry is survived by his three daughters and their spouses, Carolyn and Kenneth Lucas of Ontario, Ohio, Patricia and Michael Partin of Wilson, North Carolina and Melanie and Allen Griffin of Mansfield, Ohio; step son, Tim Reed and his two sons; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters and spouse, Betty and Jim Martin of Kennewick, Washington and Nancy Pina of Olney, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister, two brothers-in-law; three nephews; and two nieces.
A graveside service and military honors to honor Larry will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Shiloh, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Melvin Schroeder officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to OhioHealth Hospice. Online condolences can be left for the family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com.
