Karen Jean Weatherbie, age 58, of Willard, Ohio passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the OSU James Cancer Center following a yearlong battle with breast cancer. She was born October 13, 1956 in Willard, Ohio to E. Pauline (Wilkinson) and the late George “Sonny” Steinmetz.
Karen was a 1974 graduate of Seneca East High School in Attica, Ohio. She was formerly employed by Pepperidge Farm as Supply Chain Manager in Willard for 33 years. She was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard were she took pride in helping organize the return of the fall church festival as well as serving on the finance committee. Karen was one of the co-owners of the Oak Ridge Festival in Attica. She loved promoting this event as well organizing all of the food vendors.
Karen wore many different titles during her short time on earth. Karen was the rock of the family, the glue that held everyone together. To say she will be missed is an understatement. She was the most amazing wife a husband could ask for and the best mother a son could ever dream of. She wore the label of grandma with the most pride. She was a caring daughter, an incredible sister, a fun-loving aunt and a wonderful friend. She had a infectious smile, welcoming hug and a comforting voice to anyone who came in contact with her. She never knew a stranger and made everyone around her feel welcomed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles A. Weatherbie, whom she married on June 17, 1983. The love and companionship that was evident after 32 years of marriage was truly a gift of God. Also surviving is son Nicholas (Laura) Weatherbie of New Washington; one granddaughter, Avery Frances, who was the light of her life and one grandson-to-be, Cooper Gene, that she was looking forward to meeting in the fall. Step-daughters Mindy (Randy) Wilson and Melissa (Kevin) Wallace both of Greenwich; step-grandchildren, Kevin Jr (Emily), Christopher, Erika, Olivia and Grant Wallace, and Travis, Karley and Riley Wilson; step-great grandchildren, Addie and Ava Wallace; Siblings, Tom (Patty) Steinmetz, Kenneth (Renee) Steinmetz, Theresa (Scott) Caudill, Amy (Scott) Steinmetz and Steve (Tresa) Steinmetz all of Willard. Brother-in-laws, Kenneth (Martha) Weatherbie and Darwin (Mary) Weatherbie both of Willard and Wayne Weatherbie of Manheim, PA; numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews who all thought the world of their Aunt Karen.
She is preceded in death by her father, George “Sonny” Steinmetz, infant sister Rebecca Jean Steinmetz, father and mother-in-law William H. and Mildred Weatherbie, sister-in-law Pat Weatherbie and special Aunt Sally Wilkinson.
Visitations will be on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Secor Funeral Home in Willard. The funeral mass will be on July 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard with Fr. Eric Culler officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Xavier Church or St. Francis School Endowment Fund.
