Judith E. Shell, age 83, lifelong resident of New Washington, Ohio passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at her home. She was born on August 31, 1939 in Cranberry Township, Ohio to the late Anthony and Mary Inez (Fetzer) McCarthy. A New Washington High School graduate, Judy married the love her life, Melvin J. “Buck” Shell on May 9, 1959. They created a beautiful family of 7 children in New Washington. How well she cared for her family is the legacy she leaves behind. If Judy was not holding the newest baby in the family, she could be found playing cards or crocheting.
Judy is survived by her 7 children, Deacon Melvin (Cathy) Shell of Fremont, Ohio, Elizabeth (Paul) Jeffrey of Bucyrus, Ohio, David (Terese) Shell of Dublin, Ohio, Cynthia (Timon) Weithman of New Washington, Deacon Timothy (Sandi) Shell of Willowick, Ohio, Suzanne Shell of New Washington and Melissa (Alecia) Barrett of Toledo, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, Michelle Farris, Michael (Sara) Shell, Katherine (Devin) Kremin, Hannah Shell, Matthew (Stephanie) Jeffrey, Paul W. (Jacqueline) Jeffrey, Penelope Shell, Christopher Shell, Michael Shell, Nathan Shell, Jessica (Jake) Dapper, Caroline (John) Reagan, Timothy Shell, Jonathan Shell, Skyler Barrett and Ember Barrett; 11 great grandchildren, Devan Shell, Kenion Shell, Kennedy Kremin, Isaac Kremin, Noah Kremin, Alexander Jeffrey, Ayden Jeffrey, Ayanna Jeffrey, Spencer Dapper, Preston Dapper and Brayden Dapper; 3 sisters, Mary Ann (Dick) Painter, Joan (Wayne) Ziegman and Eileen (Gary) Utiss; 2 sisters-in-law, Linda McCarthy and Mary McCarthy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin J. “Buck” Shell, who passed away on November 14, 2015; 1 grandson, William Jeffrey; and 4 siblings, Joseph McCarthy, Margaret Fogelson, Tom McCarthy and Jack McCarthy.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in North Auburn, Ohio from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Diemer officiating with Deacon Melvin Shell and Deacon Timothy Shell assisting. Burial will follow at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery in North Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Bernard/Mother of Sorrows parishes.
