Janet “Jan” C. Smith, age 72, resident of Willard, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was born on July 4, 1951 in Norwalk to the late Fred and Dolores (Mitchell) Lockyer.
Jan was a graduate of South Central High School where she was a majorette. When Jan was young she always enjoyed their family trips out west and to the Oregon coast as well as cherished family trips to the Atlantic Ocean with close friends. Jan spoke highly of her time working at the pediatrician’s office as well as being a bank teller, but was most fond of her time that she spent as a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of Church of the Master in Steuben, Ohio where she served many roles: Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir director, and was part of the Womens Federated Circle. She enjoyed directing the children's Christmas plays at the church as well. Additionally, she was an active member of the Willard Community Choir, often singing alongside her husband.
In her spare time, Jan enjoyed making wedding and birthday cakes, tending to her yard and flowers, and caring for her cats. She will be remembered for making her famous snail rolls, cooking for her family and her fondness of Oreo cookies. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her husband, Dale I. Smith, who she married on September 5, 1998; son, Jeremiah (Alisha) Huffman of Willard; step daughter, Valerie (Russ) Malicki of North Fairfield; two step sons, Adam (Lanay) Smith of North Fairfield and Hiram (Maurine) Smith of Willard; step son-in-law, Kurt Barman; one granddaughter, Claire Huffman; eleven step grandchildren, Rosie, Violet, Milo and Lilac Malicki; Jayna, Landan and Madelyn Smith; Noah, Micah, Aliyah and Bekah Barman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Lockyer; and step daughter, Elaine Barman.
