James Carl Root, age 83 passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023 at Orchid Cove at Lake Placid nursing home in Lake Placid, Florida. He was born on July 30, 1940 in Shelby, Ohio.

Jim worked as a village administrator, attended Plymouth First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and had been a resident of Ohio for over 70 years and Sebring for 15 years. He was a Boy Scouts of America Troop Leader for 15 years, volunteered for the Plymouth Fire Department for 20 years and was the Village Administrator for 25 years. Jim loved living in Vermilion and watching sunsets at Lake Erie. He also enjoyed sailing. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke or two to share. He was an avid Cleveland Browns Fan and later became an avid Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan and always cheered for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

James is survived by two daughters, Shannon (Root) Bell (Donald) of Punta Gorda, FL; Shelly (Root) Strong of Plymouth, OH; brothers, Ben Root and Dave Root (Solveig). Also surviving is a grandchild, Daniel Strong of Plymouth, OH; four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry James and Clara (Jorgensen) Root, wife Dixie and granddaughter, Tina Strong.

Family and friends may visit at Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. where his memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Christian Root officiating. Jim and I were in the same class in Plymouth schools until sophmore year. Jim and and his wife Dixie are among my fondset memories of my Plymouth years.

He was my boss when I worked at the village many years ago. He was one of the friendly people I ever met. He was also the concerned type in that he could sense that something was bothering them and always asked what he could do to help. As I respected him I always called him MR Root. He was a fatherly figure to younger people and if something was bothering me I always felt better after talking to him about it. He was my friend and I am sincerley sorry for the loss.
