Harold F.Kalb, age 85, resident of rural Chatfield, Ohio passed away on Friday, December 21, 2007 at his home following a sudden illness. He was born on July 13, 1922 to Fred and Edna (Schaal) Kalb and has been a life long Chatfield resident. He is a 1940 graduate of Chatfield High School and a member of the Pietist Church of Chatfield. Harold entered the US Army in 1944 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the 383rd Infantry, 96th Division, Company E. He was injured at Okinawa and recieved two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the New Washington American Legion Post #405 and the Disable American Veterans. Mr. Kalb was a life long farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Weidemaier) Kalb whom he married on February 28, 1948; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Andrew Kaple of New Washington; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Kalb of Bellingham, WA; and Roger and Jessica Kalb of Naples, FL; seven grandchildren and spouses, Matt Kaple; Ted and Tamara Kaple; Jessica Beskur; Jaqueline and Curt Carver; Kristopher Casey and Courtney Kalb; Stefan Kalb; and Johann Kalb; four great grandchildren, Claire Kaple, Drew Kaple; Ryan Carver; and Isabella Beskur; one sister, Lola Eckstein of New Washington; one sister-in-law, Ruth Kalb of Bucyrus; one brother-in-law, Don Wilson of Bucyrus.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Kalb; two sisters, Freda Dobbins and Ilene Hern; and two infant sisters.
Harold’s wishes were to donation his body for medical science at the Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. We are so sorry to hear of your loss. We hope that the love and beautiful family memories will provide some strength to all of you at this time. All of you brought him such joy.
We had some great times as kids at Uncle Harold’s & Aunt Jean’s home as I spent time with my cousins.
