George Yacob, age 86, of Willard, Ohio passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Willard Mercy Hospital in Willard, Ohio. He was born August 21, 1926 in Willard to the late Josef and Eva (Flucsa) Yacob and had been a life long Willard resident. George served his community as Fire Chief for the City of Willard for 35 years. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Willard Elks Lodge and the Willard American Legion. A veteran of the US Navy and had served on the USS Devosa during WWII. George enjoyed golfing, fishing and Willard and Ohio State sports.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Kochel) Yacob, whom he married June 14, 1949; daughter, Rhonda (Tom) Grama of Newark, Ohio; four grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin) Nelson of Pataskala, OH; Amber Grama of Sarasota, FL; Heather (Lincoln) Shreve of Newark, OH; and Chad (Tosha) Keaton of Bucyrus; six great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Larry Heydinger of New Washington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sheron Kay Heydinger; three bothers, John and Joe Yacob, and Tommy Sherban; and three sisters, Victoria Loney, Helen Reshetar, and Mary Foraker.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2013from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio. The funeral mass will be Monday at 11:00 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard, Ohio with Fr. Eric Culler officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis School or to the church. Joyce…I was SO sorry to hear about George. I will always remember the good times we had in Willard. You and George were a big part of our family and we will always be thankful of that. Mom and dad used to tell me often how they enjoyed your company. Again, we are thinking of you and will stop the next time we are in Willard.

Dear Joyce & Family, We are sorry to hear of George’s passing… What a great man! The “boys” at Willard Golf Club will have some great memories to share for years to come!
