Frances Genevieve Smith, age 93, resident of Willard, Ohio, passed away on, Friday, June 26, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 18, 1926, in Greenfield Township.
A graduate of North Fairfield High School, she had worked at City Loan, in Norwalk, from 1944-1949. She was a loving wife and mom, taking care of her family throughout the years. Her grandchildren will always remember and cherish the times she spent with them reading stories. Fran loved baking, gardening, sewing, and singing. She was a longtime member of Church of the Master, where she sang in the choir, taught Bible school, and was part of the Women’s Federated Circle. Fran was also a 4-H Advisor, a Charter Member of Harvester’s Farm Bureau council, and For Efficiency Farm Women’s Club.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 71 years, Malcolm Smith, whom she married on January 1, 1949; five daughters, Linda (Dick) Smith, Patricia (Tom) Miller, Karen Martin, Barbara Smith, Carol Kathleen “Kathy” Smith; eleven grandchildren, Mark (Melissa) Smith, Paul Smith, Erika Miller, Andrea Miller, Nicholas (Karen) Miller, Matt (Stephanie) Martin, Amy (Jeff) Walliser, Stacey (Jason) Sutherland, Laura (Neil) Weaver, Mandi (Ryan) Paseka, and Seth Gentner; seventeen great grandchildren; half-brother, Bob Mitchell; half-sister, Beverly Orr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fran was preceded in death by her grandparents, whom raised her as their own, Jennie and Fred Mitchell; and sisters, Dolores Lockyer and Yvonne Blackwell.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of the Master, 2643 State Route 162, Steuben, Ohio. Burial will follow at Greenfield Cemetery in Steuben, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Steuben Church of the Master.
