Ellaree Collins
It is with much sadness and broken hearts that we will try to write the obituary of our beloved Mother, Ellaree Collins. Ellaree age 92, passed away Thursday evening November 14, 2024 while in hospice care at Marion General Hospital, Marion Ohio. A few days before her passing she told her Doctor, she was ready to go home, the Doctor replied her surgery went well and she should be able to be released to go home soon. She was quick to explain, “that wasn’t the home she was talking about”. She was born August 20th 1932, to Newton and Ethel (Lawson) Vanderpool. She was married to Eurmlee Collins in 1950 and they were blessed to share 67 years together. She joined the Old Regular Baptist Church April 1961, Mom dearly loved the church and in the 64 years as a member never wavered in her faith and belief in God.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Randy and Susie of Scottsdale AZ, Rick and Rhonda of Marion Ohio. Two Granddaughters, Kelli Collins and Ashley Volk and her husband Bryce. Two brothers, Roy and his wife Diana of Willard, OH and Larry Vanderpool of VA. Two sisters, Susie Vanderpool of Willard and Joanne and her husband Charles Nickles of Plymouth OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eurmlee, her parents, Newton and Ethel Vanderpool, 5 brothers, Bobby Jay, Bill, Jim, Don, Raymond, and her Granddaughter Joy Lynn Collins.
Ellaree retired after 35 year from the Pioneer Balloon Company in Willard Ohio. After retirement, Mom and Dad spent many winters at their Florida home until their age prevented them from making the drive.
We have been blessed to travel all over the country with Mom and Dad, starting when we were young boys and continuing that tradition even after we were grown with families. For the past 7 years after dads passing, we would talk with mom every day and most days multiple times, no matter if we were home or in a different state, and many times from a different country, just talking about the days events but mostly the conversations were very simply: “Just checking in, is everything ok, I love you”.
A special thanks to all who visited her at her assisted living home in Marion Ohio, Brother Patrick Deel you were so good to visit her, she thought the world of you. A very special thank you to Roy and DI for the many trips you made to visit Mom even as you were dealing with your own health issues. Mom was so excited to see you and would tell us all about the fresh goodies you baked for her. To Rhonda and her sister Vickie Martin, your dedication visiting every week to help mom with personal needs, chauffeuring her to appointments, and just being there for her meant the world to her, as it did her sons.
We knew she was in good hands. We also want to thank the special friends at Wyndmoor assisted living, you looked after mom daily, often going above and beyond just to show how you cared so much for her.
Ashley (Missy), you share your grandmothers love for cooking. She so enjoyed sharing her recipes with you and often commenting how you are the next family baker, taking over and replacing her cake baking for the family birthdays. She loved your brownies, and so loved spending time with you. When the nurse asked her if there was anything she could get her, she replied she wanted Ashley’s brownies.
Mom, you were always available for truth, guidance, and advise, and even though we will so deeply miss hearing that voice every day, there is comfort knowing you are in a better place and no longer in pain.
Your loving Sons
Rick & Randy Collins
Made with Love
“Food is love made visible”, and oh did we ever live by this. I know I still do and I hope I always will. Have you ever really looked at an old recipe card and wondered why it looks so tattered? I believe they look that way because they are more than just a collection of ideas. They are treasures of memories and love. The worn edges, stains, faded words and worn spots tell the stories of moments spent together in the kitchen. I know I have many fond memories of Grammy and I, baking together. Being with her in the kitchen wasn’t just about creating something delicious; it was about sharing secrets, having heart to heart talks, reminiscing, and usually uncontrollable fits of giggles. What I wouldn’t give for one more of those flour-dusted moments. Flour always seemed to have a mind of it’s own when we were together. My heart aches that those times are now just memories, but even in my sorrow, I feel a sense of gratitude and thankfulness for her timeless wisdom and unconditional love. I have also realized that in those memories, held within those tattered pages, Grammy has given me a place I can always visit when I need to. I imagine I’ll be there a lot, rolling up my sleeves, ready to work. I can still hear her voice, promising that our bond will live on in the recipes, stories, and flour-covered memories we made together.
Your loving granddaughter,
Missy
