Eda M. Briggs, age 92, resident of Plymouth, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Willard Health Care Center in Willard, Ohio. She was born on December 20, 1916 to the late Karl and Lucille (Samuelson) Schlotterer and has been a Plymouth resident most of her life. She was a 70 year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served on the Alter Society. She was a clerk at MacIntire’s Dry Goods Store in Plymouth until her retirement. After retiring, she and her husband loved traveling from Ohio to Florida and Arizona. She enjoyed time with her family and would crochet afghans for them to mark special events.
She is survived by one son, Francis Briggs of Plymouth; two daughters, Lenore Stein of Plymouth and Joanne Kleman of Willard; eight grandchildren, Fr. Mark Stein of Wilcox, AZ, Paula (Matthew) Shininger of Willard, Barbara (Steve) Chuburko of New Haven, Dawn (Christopher) Mansfield of Mansfield, Laura (David) Barre of Monroeville, Jeffrey (Debra) Briggs of Attica, Lisa (Robert) Hanline of Norwalk and Bryan Briggs of Columbus; 14 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Beth Zarndt of Indiana; three sisters, Theresa Prendergast of Mansfield, Lucille King of Georgia and Carol (Robert) Schriner of Shiloh and six sisters-in-law, Geraldine Schlotterer of Arizona, Nancy (Henry) Harry of Pennsylvania, Helen Schlotterer of Elyria, Audrey Schlotterer of Celina, OH, Margaret (Harold) Myers of Mansfield and Betty Squires of Mansfield.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leland Briggs; her parents, Karl and Lucille Schlotterer; infant granddaughter, Kimberly Stein, infant grandson, Brandon Briggs; five sisters, Marion Frederick, Bertha Bapst, Peggy Strauss, Rose Klinehans, infant Rita Schlotterer and seven brothers, George, Karl, Joseph, Louis, James, William and Richard Schlotterer.
Funeral mass will be Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plymouth with Fr. Mark Stein officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cememtery in Plymouth. Memorial tributes may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth is assisting the family with arrangements.
