Doyle Merritt Coder (“Fuzz” or “Curly”), age 84, former of East Mansfield Street, New Washington, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Bucyrus, Ohio. He was born July 27, 1924 in Huron County, OH to the late Wallie & Effie (Leonard) Coder.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra (Ron) Plano of New Castle, PA; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott (Gerry) Coder of Tiro, Ted (Sandi) Coder and Tom Coder of New Washington, and former wife and mother of his children, Freda M. Niedermier Coder of New Washington.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff) Rule of Bucyrus, Kasey Coder of Findlay and Cory and Lauren Coder of Greenwich; in addition to 2 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.
Other survivors include a sister, Lucile Heydinger of New Washington and a brother, Dwight L. (Barbara) Coder of Norwalk.
He is preceded in death by his parents and by his long-time companion, Helen Marie Shiley.
A lifetime resident of New Washington, Doyle graduated with New Washington High School’s class of 1943.
After 43 years of service, Mr. Coder retired from Galion Manufacturing in Galion, OH. He also worked for Gene Bishop Buckeye Consolidated for 16 years.
A member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, he was an usher and a former church council president and member. He was also head of the New Washington Little League program for several years, including 1964 when the all-star New York travelling team came to New Washington to play the local Little League Team. In addition to being a former city council member, he was also inducted into the Buckeye Central Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
We love you, Dad. Your constant source of strength, your great sense of humor, and zest for life will be deeply missed but not forgotten.
Calling hours will be observed at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington
on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 5-8 P.M. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11A.M. at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington with Fr. Tommy Rodrigues offciating. Burial will follow at the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.

I was just reading the News Journal and noticed your dad’s obiturary. I will be working Tuesday at school and in the evening at the nursing home where I do activities but wanted you to know that you are in our prayers and you have my sympathy. I am sure you have many good memories and will cherish them.
