Dennis Eugene Hatton, age 70, of Norwalk, Ohio passed away December 27, 2020 at the Gaymont Nursing Home in Norwalk, Ohio. He was born December 17, 1950 in Willard, Ohio to the late Eugene and Joanne (Herion) Hatton.
He is survived by 3 sons, Drew (Jenn) Hatton of Seattle, WA; Geoff (Megan) Hatton, of Moon Township, PA, Ross (Leah) Hatton of Oreland, PA; eight grandchildren, Noah, Amber, Drew, Alaina, Josh, Hailey, Miles, Stella, three sisters, Karen (Gordon) Davidson of Mill Spring, NC, Vicki (David) Leeds of Horse Shoe, NC and Barbara (Bill) Franke of Farmington, MN, and brother, David (Paola Olaya) Hatton of Media, PA.
Throughout his life, Dennis was brilliantly creative and inventive. He applied his passion for artistic expression in everything that he experienced. His bright smile, warm humor, amazing charisma and generous heart always lit up a room.
Growing up in Greenville, PA and then moving to Pittsburgh in the early 60s, he attended Churchill High School and was active in theater and played the saxophone in the marching band. He attended Penn State University and transferred to Carnegie Mellon University, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
He was a successful partner in two prominent graphic design firms in Pittsburgh and was President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. As a design visionary, he and colleague Jeanne Parsons developed the interiors of the Welcome Center at the Capital building in Harrisburg PA, one of his favorite projects that he enjoyed showing to friends and colleagues.
He made a career change into garden design by starting his own landscaping business from his Highland Park home, where he designed his own magnificent garden which was prominently featured in The Pittsburgh Press. He also had a landscape business in Fort Myers, Florida before retiring close to his parents in Willard, Ohio.
Dennis was an avid sports fan and followed all of the Pittsburgh teams, in particular the Steelers as well as his alma mater, the Penn State Nittany Lions. He also spent his free time traveling with friends throughout the United States and Europe.
Whether it was designing a corporate brochure, decorating a home, creating a spectacular floral arrangement or planting pansies in an intimate garden, Dennis had a gift of making the ordinary, extraordinary and beautiful for the enjoyment of everyone in his life.
There will be no funeral service at this time. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.secorfuneralhomes.com.
