Corey “Coney” Charles Goodsite, age 42, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2025, in Willard, Ohio after a brief illness. Born on June 6, 1982, in Willard, Corey spent time in Columbus until he returned to Willard and Holiday Lakes.
A proud graduate of Willard High School’s Class of 2001, Corey was known for his vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him. He had a gift for bringing people together. Whether hosting gatherings when he lived in Columbus or cooking for family and friends, he made every moment feel special.
Corey was a great cook. He worked in the food industry for years and truly believed, “What’s mine is yours.” Corey graciously prepared meals and would unexpectedly show up at your doorstep with food, simply because he felt you either needed the meal…or needed a visit from him.
What Corey lacked in stature, he compensated for with an overabundance of charisma, charm and feistiness. He took fashion advice from no one and often amped up his wardrobe with an appropriate hat and one of his signature rooster necklaces. Speaking of fashion, let us not forget how often Corey showed up “fashionably late.”
Corey fully believed in staying connected with those you love and was a GREAT communicator. He would randomly call loved ones to touch base, talk on the phone with friends for HOURS, and always greeted everyone with a hug and kiss as they arrived at family and social gatherings. Even though his physical pain limited his ability to get out and visit friends and family the way he would have preferred, he made many phone calls to those he loved.
Another philosophy Corey believed in was “There are no strangers.” Corey truly never met a stranger. He had the ability to chat with anyone he met and find a common bond. He treated everyone with kindness, was a free spirit, and had a heart of gold. He stuck up for anyone he felt was being bullied or treated unfairly.
He loved a social gathering and certainly didn’t mind being the life of the party while singing, “Let Me Clear My Throat” at parties and receptions. He had quite a sense of humor and was quick with a comeback. Corey loved to play golf before his pain got the best of him and loved the San Francisco 49ers. Holiday Lakes held a special place in his heart, offering serenity and happiness by the water. His music and laughter could be heard all around the lake.
Corey was given the gift of life, and he lived it fully. He was a lucky man who led a lucky existence, and he was grateful for his life and all those in it. After a near-fatal auto accident 14 years ago, Corey bravely faced many medical issues. Few knew the pain he lived with, as it was just not in his nature to complain. And even in his waning weeks of life, he was a model of strong will and sheer determination, right up until the end of his journey here on earth.
Corey was fiercely loved by all who knew him, but especially so by his parents Bill and Beth Goodsite; son Mason Verhoff; grandfather Bud Schaffer; brother Casey Goodsite; sister Caitlin Goodsite; nieces Emma, Aubrey, and Ava Goodsite; nephew Dominic Goodsite; aunt Chris Jacobs; uncle and aunt Mike and Deb Schaffer; uncle John Goodsite; uncle and aunt Curtis and Fran Goodsite; uncle and aunt George and Connie (Goodsite) Bramlett; aunt and uncle Julie and Lanny Jackson; uncle and aunt Dane and Val Moll; along with many beloved cousins. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Secor Funeral Home, 202 W. Maple St., Willard, Ohio. A funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM at the same location.
Corey’s memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his infectious spirit, smile, and laughter continue to bring us all comfort and peace in the days and weeks ahead.

I grew up viewing Corey as a big brother. Caitlin was my best friend, some of my greatest childhood moments were growing up in this families house!
