Carolyn Anne Kaple, age 86, of New Washington, Ohio passed away surrounded by family at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 after a battle with illness. She was born on June 13, 1938 in New Washington, Ohio to the late Alfred Karl and Elizabeth Ryman.

Carolyn loved singing and frequently performed at local weddings. She even appeared on the Gene Carroll show in Cleveland as a teenager. As an adult, she led musical performances to raise money for St. Bernard’s school and was a dedicated member of the Buckeye Central School Board for decades. She was a graduate of Providence Nursing School and worked for Drs. Kenny & Barth in New Washington for many years. She also served as the head administrative nurse at Shelby Hospital and Mansfield General Hospital.

In 1959, she married Bernard “Bud” Kaple with whom she raised two sons, Jeff and Scott. She always remained close to her sisters, with whom she enjoyed regular lunch dates. She loved taking her five grandchildren out to restaurants and never missed a concert, play, or recital. Her deep love for family was plain to all who knew her.

Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Dr. Scott (Karen) Kaple of Norwalk, Ohio and Jeff Kaple (Amy Szymkowiak) of Mansfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Michael Kaple, Elizabeth Kaple (Zebulon Wimsatt), Patrick (Marlea) Kaple, Jack Kaple and Anna Grace Kaple; two sisters, Sharon (Dale) Scheid and Debbie (Jim) Sheppers; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Suzanne (Ben) Lash, Jan Frazee and David “Demps” (Heather) Kaple, Mary Jean (Dale) Smith, Flossie Kaple and Barb Kaple; and several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Betty (Stan) Ryman; father, Alfred (Agnes) Karl; husband, Bud Kaple in 1987; sisters, Diane Boehler and Mary Jo Wilken; and brothers-in-law, Tom Frazee, Tom Kaple and Bill Kaple.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 18, 2024 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington at 11:00 a.m. with Father Valerian Lawara and Father Frank Kehres officiating. So sorry for your loss, Dr. Scott and Karen. And also to the grandchildren I was fortunate to teach at St. Paul H.S. I also was fortunate to have your mom on my radar while I served at St. Bernard's a year ago as Pastoral Coordinator. May God be with you all at this difficult time.

My sympathies and prayers for comfort to the Kaple family. As a young girl, I had fond memories of Carolyn at Dr Barth and Kenny's office. She was an amazing nurse with such special care for her patients. She had genuine concern and such a beautiful smile! You were blessed to have her as a mom and grandmother.

Dear Family of Carolyn, I am a nursing school classmate of Carolyn. We live in Shelby and I'm so glad you put her obit. in our newspaper. What a very great loss for you! She was a dear friend and when I share the news, we all will be very sorry to hear she's gone. She joined our class at Mansfield General Hosp. School of Nursing in 1961 and grad. with us 8/62. We all loved her from the start! Even tho she was married so not in our dorm, we easily got to know her as she was so friendly, excited to join us, and quickly fit right in. After my husband and I moved back to Shelby in 1983, she and I would occas. meet at our grocery and always caught each other up on our careers and families. After she became director of nursing at the Shelby Hosp. I'd also see her when I was visiting a patient. Never one to sit behind a desk, she'd be in and out of patient's rooms, always smiling but actually being the excellent nurse she was, making certain all was 100%. Her staff and patients loved her as well they should. I haven't seen her in recent years and wondered how she was. All who met her were blessed in many regards. Our class will join in prayers for your peace and consolation. My husband is going to try to email to Secor, 2 pictures of Carolyn from our school 1962 yearbook that maybe you've not seen. Hoping they arrive, but if not, I've included my email address if you wish to contact me.. Janet (Frank) Clabaugh ([email protected])

Scott, Jeff and grandchildren, I am very sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing. It was mine and my brother Sam's pleasure to take care of her yard in the spring summer and fall and shovel her sidewalk and drive way in the winter months. She was a favorite of both of ours, as well as our parents Scott and Yvette, especially our dad. I thought the world of her and enjoyed visiting with her after mowing the grass, raking the leaves and clearing snow in the winter. Visits carried after I was done doing that stuff, usually paid her a visit every couple of weeks after starting college and entering adulthood. I always appreciated her stories, sense of humor and words of encouragement when she could sense that I needed some. While she may be gone, she will definitely not be forgotten and I am thankful that she was a part of my life for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
