Bernard P. "Bernie" Szymczak Jr, age 47, resident of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at LakeMed Care and Rehabilitation in Painesville, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Bernie was born on November 8, 1970 in Medina, Ohio to Bernard and Aurie (Carey) Szymczak. He is a high school graduate from Buckeye Central and Pioneer. Bernie then went onto getting his Bachelor's Degree in business. He worked at Progressive as an IT Systems Engineer. Bernie was a member of Vivit World Wide Technologies, the Fairport Harbor Yacht Club and SCA (The Society for Creative Anachronism), which he did with his wife, Shirley.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Anderson) Quigley, whom he married on October 16, 2004; 3 children, Alex and Corwin Szymczak, Sara (Deremy) Powell, and their mother, Felicia; parents, Bernard "Barney" and Aurie Szymczak; 2 brothers, Chuck (Lisa) Szymczak, James (Crystal) Szymczak; and nieces and nephews, Brianna, Kaylin, Avery, Alivia, and Tyson.
Bernard is preceded in death by his sister, Angellina "Angie" Szymczak.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Pairan officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery in Marion, Ohio. Shirley & Family - I am so saddened and heartbroken about this. Bernard was a wonderful and unique person. I worked on the same team with him for many years at Progressive.
