Arlyce Amrhien, age 86, of Willard, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 7, 1934, in Republic, Ohio to the late Albert and Fern (Miller) Amrhien. Arlyce was an employee of MTD in Willard for 45 years, working his way through the ranks, with the last sixteen of those as General Manager and a mentor to many, many people, with his friends Roy King, Mike Courtright and Chuck Reinhart on the top of that list. Arlyce was kind and generous, with a heart of gold and one of kind, "Like a Tiger". He was of the Methodist Faith and attended the Willard Church of God.

The last 4 plus years of this life he was still a Tiger, even though confined to a wheelchair and bed, due to a severe stroke in 2016. He was able to remain at his home, being cared for by his wife and wonderful care givers, Brittany, Kerstie and Misty.

He was a member of the Willard Elks, being very active as an officer and helping out whenever needed, even cooking in the kitchen on Friday nights. He was also a great speaker, going to the school to talk to the elementary students on the importance of getting an education, getting a good job and the importance of always being on time and working hard at whatever field they chose. Most importantly, always have a positive attitude

Arlyce and his wife loved taking short trips and going out to eat with their kids: and going to grandkids sporting events. He loved visiting his daughter Jennifer and her children in Toledo and going to Tennessee to spend time at his daughter Valerie's home. Best of all, Arlyce loved being at home working in his yard and always having the best decorated home at Christmas - his favorite time of the year!!

He served in the Army, during 1956-1958, his entire tour was spent in Germany, as the base band director. His band was the one that played as Eisenhower reviewed he troops. You might say he led a very exciting life and shook hands with some of the famous. He is also one of the last two survivors of the plane crash that took off from Burke Lakefront Airport at 7:15AM on the day of January 29, 1974, and crashed into the chilly water of Lake Erie, all six on board survived that day.

Also, a diehard Cleveland Indians fan, missing very few games until he retired in 2000. On August 20, 1995, he had the honor of throwing out the 1st pitch for the Indians.

He also served on the Board of Directors of Willard Mercy Hospital for 10 years.

An amazing and very talented man who was a friend to many, many people, he will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife and soul mate, Mary Adams Amrhien, who he married in August of 2012; children, Valerie (Doug) Hart, Jennifer (Jayson) Rydman, Pam (James) Martin, Marianna (Philip) Worcester, Ed (Brenda) Adams, Harold (Janet) Adams, Chris (Tina) Adams and Kelly Butler; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; loving brother, Bruce (Pat) Amrhien; two nieces and a nephew and his previous wife, Dorothy Detrich Wolfe.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his previous wife, Linda (Werling) Amrhien and a step-son, Kim Hershiser.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Arlyce's funeral services will be private. Plans are being made for a public celebration of Arlyce’s life later this spring when COVID-19 measures are lifted, and will be announced at that time. Memorial donations may be made to Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio, or the Willard Elks #1370. Online condolences may be made to his family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com
