Alice C. Blum, age 92, of New Washington, Ohio passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Willows at Willard Nursing Home. She was born on September 13, 1923 to the late Frank J. and Emma M. (Karl) Burger in North Auburn, Ohio. Alice was a 1942 graduate of New Washington High School and was a former employee of Fuller Brush Co., Pioneer Rubber and retired from Timken Roller Bearing. She was a member and volunteer at St. Bernard Catholic Church and a member of the Rosary Altar Society.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond A. Blum, whom she married on November 6, 1948; son Joseph R. (Sandrea) Blum of New Washington; 2 daughters, Margaret E. (Darrell) LaVenia of Ravenna, Ohio and Rose Marie (Todd Weisbarth) Berman of Canal Winchester, Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Dr. Amy (Mark) Schnipke, Joseph (Rebecca) Blum, Mary Margaret (Nicholas) Mitchell, Anna Marie LaVenia (Bill Russell), Anthony (Kelsey) Berman, Dustin (Stacie) Berman, Jessica (Philip Link) Berman and Thomas Berman; 6 great grandchildren, Owen, Will and Avery Schnipke; Charlie and Alice LaVenia-Russell and Ella Berman; and 2 sisters-in-law, Arlene Burger and Janice Burger.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 5 brothers, Alfred, Bernard, Arthur “Boots”, John F. and Ben Burger and 5 sisters, Helen Kaple, Frances Mielcarek, Dorothy Curran, Marie Burger and Joan Long.
Friends may call at Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, Ohio on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Fr. Eric Culler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Sorry for your loss! I have fond memories of lots of great times with the Blum family. Especially remember going to their house on Christmas Eve and when we arrived home after midnight mass, etc. we enjoyed our Christmas.
