Gerrit Van Eerten, age 55, resident of New Washington passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 13, 2004 in Bucyrus Communtiy Hospital. He was born on April 13, 1949 in Wolvega, Netherlands to the late Jacob and Grietje (Korf) Van Eerten and has been a New Washington resident since 1956. A 1968 graduate of Buckeye Central High School, he served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Van Eerten was the co-owner, with his late brother, of Gochenour Meats and Drive Thru in New Washington.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Prater) Van Eerten; one daughter, Andrea Van Eerten of Stamford, CT; one son, James Van Eerten of New Washington; one sister, Margo Van Scoder of Chatfield; one sister-in-law, Laurena Van Eerten of New Washigton; four nephews and four nieces. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Tieman Van Eerten in 2003.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with Reverend Pamela J. Sayre officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in New Washington.
