John R. Sams, age 92, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2007 in Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard. He was born on July 12, 1914 in Peak’s Mill, Kentucky to the late John B. and Lula (Flaherty) Sams and had been a Gypsum, Ohio resident the majority of his life, recently moving to Willard. Mr. Sams was a retired conductor from the Nickel Plate Railroad. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the United Transportation Union.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Andy Missler of Willard; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Sams of Bellevue; seven grandchildren, Susan Kiss, John Missler, Dennis Missler, Chris Sams, Brian Missler, Margaret Ward and Rob Sams; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude E. (Ernsberger) Sams in 1956; his second wife, Elma H. (Diebert) Sams in 1980; and his third wife, Thelma (Huskey) Sams in 2002; a son, John C. Sams; an infant granddaughter; two brothers, Gilbert F. Sams and Howard Watson; and a sister, Shirley Orwig.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2007 in Bellevue Cemetery in Bellevue, Ohio. No calling hours will be observed. Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.secorfuneralhome.com
