Edward Glenn (Rick) Horne, 72, from Grove Port, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus OH.

Born on July 10, 1952 in Willard, OH to James E. and Rose Marie (Amburgy) Horne.

Rick attended Plymouth Elementary and High School in Plymouth, OH, but was a 1970 graduate of Utica High School in Utica OH.  He was a journeymen press operator with American National Can in Mt. Vernon, OH for over 25 years, and retired from Management at FUJI Seal Co in Bardstown, KY after 10 years.  No matter where he lived, neighbors, friends and children gravitated to his warm, caring personality.  He always listened to them talk about school or whatever sport they were involved in.  He attended as many ball games as he could for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  In fact, he was looking forward to Jayden’s tournament last weekend, but was sadly hospitalized.  His heart always belonged to dogs, which he treated as his children, whether it be Ginger, Bailey or Brutus.    Rick was a die-hard fan of the Ohio State University Football team and the Cincinnati Reds.  Unfortunately, he passed before knowing the Reds recently beat the Cardinals.

Rick is survived by his wife, Kimberly Sue (Loar) Horne, Her 2 Children- Jennifer (Will) King and Robert Dennis. -His 2 Daughters from a previous marriage, Stacy (Brett) Degler and Holly (Damon) Felix.   5 Grandchildren- Ashlyn and Justin Degler, Aubrey and Ayden Felix and Ezra King. 4 Great Grandchildren – Jayden Felix, Tayven Williams and Dezi and Della Degler.  Rick was one of 11 children and is survived by one brother, James E. (Joy) Horne Jr. two sisters Barbara (Terry) Perkins and Kaye (Eddie d.) Perkins. He is additionally survived by a multitude of beloved Cousins, Nieces and Nephews all who have a story to tell about their Uncle Rick.  One of his nephews was truly special to him and they had a bond like no other, his twin brother’s son Brandon Horne.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and sisters all rejoicing with him in heaven: DiAna Joy, Billy Gene, Minta Sue, Gordon Dean, Bette Jo, Muriel Lee, and his twin brother Richard Ray (Dick), as well as his Nephew Donald James and mother in-law Beverly Harbaugh.

Rick will be remembered as the kindest, most loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle to all who knew him.  We know you are happy and at peace in heaven with Dick, but we will miss you forever.  To honor Rick’s life, keep his memory alive by telling his “stories” and pay forward his kindness.

Rick’s family will receive family and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th at Secor’s Funeral Home, 202 W. Maple St. Willard, OH 44890. A memorial service will follow at 12 pm with Brandon Horne officiating.  He will be laid to rest next to his twin brother Dick immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven OH.

Rick was one of my favorite people and it always me smile to see him. He had such a kind and gentle aura around him and always made you feel that he was genuinely happy to see you and talk to you. He would always ask how you were doing, what was going on in your life and always listened and cared about what you had to say. It made me cry when Amy told me about visiting him in the hospital and that he asked about how I was doing and asking Bentley about football and how he was doing - with everything he was facing at the time. I wish I was more like Rick. Rick loved his Cincinnati Reds but he loved baseball period, even little league. Some of my favorite memories of Rick were talking baseball at the kids' little league games or gently ribbing each other over the Reds-Cardinals rivalry. I will forever regret not going to see him in his last days and leaning in to gently whisper in his ear that the Reds had beaten the Cardinals and that I loved him.

What a great friend and a pleasure to have known him. All the years growing up together running around playing football & basketball going to school. Rick never changed. To see him yrs ago to the present he was the same ole Rick. I considered myself very fortunate to have him as my friend. Sadly, he will be missed by all. Becki & Hubby Conley
