Loretha (Boyd) McKinney, homemaker and retired assembly line worker of Mid-West Industries passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at The Willows after a lengthy illness. Loretha was surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 5th 1941 in Franklin County, VA, the ninth child of Frankie Elizabeth (Martin) and Samuel Irvin Boyd.
She is an alumna of Norwalk High School. On June 8th 1962, Loretha married and moved to Willard, Ohio where she resided for 61 years, and raised three children with her husband Christopher McKinney. Loretha worked at Mid-West Industries for 36 years as an assembly line worker.
Loretha was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the newspaper. She also loved to collect bells, cook and share recipes. To this very day no one can beat her carrot cake. Also, if anyone has experienced Keith’s barbecue, well the secret sauce came from Loretha. She was domestic and had access to their garden and loved to can vegetables and cooked from scratch. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her family and family gatherings.
Loretha was preceded in death by her parents; Frankie and Samuel Boyd, and siblings; Ellen Smith, Melvin Boyd, Edward Boyd, Viola Hancock, Eva Simpson, Florine Elizabeth Harkness, James Boyd and Minnie Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Christopher McKinney; her children: Christopher Keith McKinney of Willard, Ohio; Michael Todd McKinney of Lexington KY; Shelley Lynn (Ezana) Boston of Columbus, OH; her sister: Flossie Simmons of Sandusky, OH; her brother: Floyd Boyd of Mansfield, OH; her grandchildren: Christopher, David, Daiyaan and Alize. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and numerous other family and friends.
Arrangements are entrusted to Secor Funeral Home in Willard. A graveside family burial will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Willard. A repass for family and friends will follow at 2:00 p.m. at The Bridge, 3096 State Route 99, Willard, OH 44890.
