Daryl Floyd Riedel, age 91, lifelong resident of New Washington, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Altercare of Bucyrus in Bucyrus, Ohio. He was born on June 22, 1929 in New Washington to the late Jesse H. and Minnie (Magsig) Riedel.
A 1947 graduate of New Washington High School, Daryl briefly worked at North Central Egg Co-op before serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, he went to work for Bob Eckstein as a carpenter for a number of years and then went on to work for PPG, from which he retired from after 25 years.
Daryl was proud of his service in the Army and it was shown through his active involvement with the New Washington American Legion for over 50 years. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington where he was active in many “behind the scenes” tasks of maintaining the church and serving on the Cemetery and Property Care Committee.
Being active in the New Washington community, Daryl enjoyed working on a number of the projects the town acquired and was also part of the Water Board and helped to establish the first local pool. He enjoyed gardening and most of all, attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Daryl is survived by his daughter, Holly (Jefferson) Cronau of Port Clinton, Ohio; son, Douglas (Tonya) Riedel of Powell, Ohio; four grandchildren, Justin (Rachel) Cronau, Jessica (Jonathan) Reece, Luke Riedel and Olivia Riedel; sister, Virginia Meister; sisters-in-law, Charlene Deane and Donna Deane; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Daryl was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Norma D. Riedel, who passed away on November 19, 2017; and siblings, Gerald Riedel, Wayne Riedel, twins, Calmer and Calvin Riedel, Robert Riedel and Jeanette Naufzinger.
Private funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Daryl will be laid to rest at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Washington following the funeral with full military honors by the New Washington American Legion.
