Herbert R. Mahl, age 82, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at his home surround by his family. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Sherman Township, Huron County, Ohio to the late Linus and Lillian (Houck) Mahl and has been a lifelong area resident. Mr. Mahl was a 1951 graduate of Willard High School and then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mahl was a masonry contractor by trade, had owned and operated two restaurants in Plymouth and New Washington, and later worked and retired from Fannie Farmer. Herb was always very involved with his children’s activities and sports. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, member of the Monroeville American Legion Post 547, and a life time member of the Handyman Club of America. Herb enjoyed furniture making and family time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoAnn R. (Berger) Mahl, whom he married on June 1, 1957; four children, Jeffery (Renee) Mahl of Attica, Nickolas (Sandy) Mahl of Plano, TX, Christopher (Roberta) Mahl of Willard, and Lara (David) Mathias of Willard; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Veronica Mahl.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Eric Culler officiating. Burial will be held in St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery in Bismark, Ohio at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Stein Hospice of Sandusky.
