Thomas D. King, age 67, of Willard, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 4, 1947 in Willard, Ohio to Dean King and Ruth A. “Butter” (Jones) King. He was a member of the Willard Police Department for 33-1/2 years with his last 9 years serving as Police Chief. He had also served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard and the Willard American Legion. He loved to be outside and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. (Baker) King whom he married on May 26, 1978; 3 daughters, Stephany (Richard) Burkhalter of Richwood, OH; Angela King of Willard and Kari King of Norwalk, OH; 4 grandchildren, Brentan Ryman, Alexander Burkhalter, Andrew Burkhalter and Joe Burkhalter; father Dean King of Norwalk, OH; 1 brother, Mike (Lana) King of Willard; 3 sisters, Patty King of Attica, OH; Susan Moore of CA; Lori (Mike) Pugh of Willard and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by mother, Ruth A. “Butter” (Jones) King and step-mother, Ann King.
Visitation will be at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Blanche Tyree officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Willard, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard, to Stein Hospice or to the Willard F.O.P. I just recently heard of Tom’s passing and am so very sorry he has left us. Tom was an exceptional member of the class of ’65. He always brought a smile to my face. He will be sorely missed and my sympathy goes to Tom’s wife and family.

I was very sorry to hear the sad news about the passing of Tom King. I knew him from our high school years and a few times spent with him since, but all the very clear memories I have of him bring on a smile. Tom was smart, kind, encouraging and funny. Willard was fortunate to have one of its own with such good qualities applied to a life of excellent service. My deepest sympathy and best wishes to his family.

Tom made working at WPD an enjoyable experience. He always had time to laugh regardless of what we were involved in. Even the day he ripped his knee apart chasing an escapee, he had some funny things to say. I will remember him always.
Tom was a fighter at heart. He showed that time and time again.I know he fought hard over the last few months, but it just wasn’t to be. May he rest in peace now.

My sympathy for the loss of such a wonderful guy. I have 1000s of stories and memories growing up with Tom. We walked to school together every day & home from football practice. I can still see his line drive home run clearing the Little League fence. Thank you for your great life, service, and friendship Wieners.

I was sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. We grew up together in Willard, and I will always hold special memories of him in my heart. Due to health issues, I won’t be able to make a funeral visit, but I want his family to know how much his friendship meant to me. His family will be in my prayers.
