Richard E. Parsons, Sr. of Willard passed away on July 14, 2014 at the Mercy Hospital in Willard, after a long illness. He was born in Cumberland, MD on September 21, 1925 to Hazel (Miller) and Edgar Parker Parsons. He graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD in 1943 and immediately began working for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Germany and France in World War II. While in the service, he married his beloved Jean Cecelia Ketzner on November 9, 1944 and she survives him.
In 1958 he and the family moved to Garret, IN where they resided until 1963 when they came to Willard. Richard continued to work for the railroad until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
In addition to his Jean, Richard is survived by a daughter Linda (Jim) Austin of Highland, MI and a son, Richard Jr. of Norwalk. Also by grandchildren Chantel Hesting (Amy Creigh), Chad (Amy Holston) Hesting, Tiffany Hesting, and Zach (Amy) Hesting all of Indiana; Summer (Rhett) Rowe of Michigan; Jeremy (Beata) Earl, Heidi (Bryan) French, all of OH, and Amee Earl of NC, and Katie (Tim) Mowry of Norwalk. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, and family friends, Jerry Earl and Joe Casey. He was pre-deceased by his parents, daughters Carolyn Earl and Sherry (Tom) Hesting, and great -grandson Logan Earl.
Friends may call at Secor Funeral Home, Willard on Wednesday from 5-7 P.M. and on Thursday from 1:00 until time of the service at 2:00 with Pastor Doug Winner officiating. Burial will take place at the North Fairfield Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 108 W Maple, Willard, OH.
