H. Eugene Smith (Smitty) passed away at home on January 17, 2020 with his loving wife at his side. Gene was born on May 9, 1928 to the late Perry Andrew and Maude (Meiser, Benninger) Smith on the Smith family farm in Attica, Ohio. He married Betty (White) Smith on July 4, 1952, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage this past July.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Cathy (Jerry) Naufzinger; grandchildren, Angie (Wes) Neumann and Dan (Lisa) Naufzinger; great grandchildren, Kobie, Lilly, and Kendall, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1948 and proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. He worked at Timken for 30 years. They spent their weekends camping with many good friends. Once he retired Betty and him sold their home and bought a new 5th wheel and truck so they could travel the United States. In their 18 years of traveling, they were able to travel to every state in the United States including Hawaii and Alaska, as well as Canada, Mexico, and cruises through the Caribbean. They have many wonderful memories of their time traveling.

Gene was a life member of the Amvets and the American Legion. He loved working on puzzles. He enjoyed trap shooting, woodworking, and spending time with close friends. He adored his only child, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Gene will be laid to rest in Attica Cemetery in Attica, Ohio next to his brother, father, and grandparents. The family will have a memorial at a later time. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com
