Elaine Renee Barman, 37, was called home to her Lord on September 9th in Harlan, Iowa, at her home among her loving family after her courageous battle with cancer.

She was born July 4th, 1982 in Norwalk, OH, to Dale and the late Linda (Gore) Smith. She was a 2000 graduate from Willard High School and attained her bachelor's degree from Ashland University in 2004.

Elaine worked several jobs within the community. She worked at Valley Beach as a lifeguard where she met her husband Kurt Barman. She worked for the Norwalk Rec Center and then the Huron County Health Department for 10 years as a health educator, emergency planner, implemented the county health assessment and improvement plan, trying to tackle the health concerns of the community. As the family moved to Iowa in 2017, she turned her focus to homeschooling her 4 children and being a tutor in the Classical Conversations Community in Council Bluffs, IA.

Elaine loved to laugh and have fun. She enjoyed hanging out with her family and friends, the outdoors with rock climbing, ATV riding, being a part of 4H, rugby, swimming, traveling to national parks, and seeing dolphins in the ocean. She was spontaneous and enjoyed doing things planned at the last moment. She had a passion for researching things and a fascination with information and statistics. She would use this knowledge to help all those around her with things going on in their lives. She had a contagious laugh and smile that instantly drew people in. She had a positive attitude through any trial. Her strength of faith was inspiring to so many who followed her life and in many communities as she was a partner in ministry with her husband. Anybody that knew Elaine can point to how they are a better person because of her.

She married her husband Kurt on March 20, 2004 and had 4 beautiful children: Noah, Micah, Aliyah, and Beckah. Along with her family she is survived by her dad Dale Smith, stepmom Jan Smith of Willard, OH; sister Valerie (Russ) Malicki of N. Fairfield, OH; brothers Adam (Lanay) Smith of N. Fairfield, OH, and Hiram Smith of Willard, OH, Jeremiah (Alisha) Huffman of Willard, OH; her grandmothers Darlene Gore and Edna Smith; in-laws Dave and Sharon Barman of Norwalk, OH, Craig Barman of Norwalk, OH, and Trisha (Mike) Chepote of Bellevue, OH; many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Family and friends may visit at Harvest Alliance Church in Minden, IA on Thursday Sept. 12th from 6-8 pm and at Willard Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Willard, OH Sunday Sept. 15th from 4-8 pm. A celebration of her life will follow in Willard CMA on Monday Sept. 16th at 11 am. Interment will be at Steuben cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Elaine Barman Memorial Fund through US Bank to benefit her children. Online condolences may be made to Elaine's family by visiting www.secorfuneralhomes.com
