Herbert “Hub” Hicks, age 85, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Willows in Willard, Ohio. He was born on March 1, 1928 in Garrett, Kentucky to the late Elbert and Hester (Bolen) Hicks and had been a Willard resident since 1945. Mr. Hicks retired from the CSX Railroad in Willard after over 44 years with the B&O and Chessie System. He attended the Willard United Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, camping and sharing time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Maggie (Ousley) Hicks whom he married on July 30, 1948; a daughter, Christine “Sis” (William Boyd “Robbie”) Robertson of Shelby; and a son, Vernon “Vern” (Kathleen “Katie”) Hicks of Wakeman; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Miller of Willard; and a brother, Lloyd Hicks of Willard.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by five brothers, Ellis Ray, Enis, Luther, Norman and Thurman Hicks; and four sisters, Edna Dugan; Alice May Moore; Violet Tackett; and Omie Wright.
Friends may call at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, where the funeral service will be Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Elder Buddy Carty and Elder Phil Beverly officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Maytown First Baptist Church, Langley, KY 41645 or to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870. Maggie, Christine and Vern. It was a pleasure taking care of Hub and knowing him and Maggie for many years. Hub will be missed by so many! Hub’s passing will leave a gap in my heart but I will always smile knowing I met the man with the ‘greatest legs in Huron county’
