James Orville Blankenship, age 86, resident of Shiloh, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland. He was born on August 3, 1926 in Cannel City, Kentucky to the late Wilburn and Letha (Spencer) Blankenship. Jim was a WWII Navy veteran. After serving his country, he worked at Martin Steel Corporation in Mansfield as a steel worker for many years, and then went on to be a janitor at Shelby High School and Central Elementary School. He was a member of the Temple of God Church of Shelby and enjoyed wood working and hanging out with his morning group of friends at the McDonald’s in Willard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mattie (Frisby) Blankenship; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Blankenship of Macedonia, Ohio; three grandchildren, Joshua (Kaitlin) Blankenship, Brian Blankenship and Kelly Blankenship; two sisters, Gay Gillum and Laura Oney, both of Shiloh; one son-in-law, Tom DeWalt of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Judy DeWalt; three brothers, Kelly, Palmer and Troy Blankenship; and four sisters, Elizabeth Blankenship, Gladys Frisby, Mae Frisby and Zona Oney.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor George Lewis and Assistant Pastor John Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Memorial contributions can be made to the Temple of God Church in Shelby. Mattie and Wayne, so sorry to hear about Orville. We always enjoyed talking to him and seeing him out at all the festivals and ox roast and such. You have our sympathy and we will keep you in our prayers.
