Charles Lloyd Mullen, age 95, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012 at his home. He was born on May 1, 1917 in Willard to the late Thomas Burton and Ethel Iona (Stephens) Mullen. Chuck was a 1935 graduate of Willard High School. He played tenor and alto in the High School dance and marching bands. He also played for small dance bands in his younger days and then enjoyed playing the organ as a past time in retirement years. He retired from the B & O Railroad in 1977 after 37 years of service and then drove bus for Willard City Schools for 6 years. He was a 65 year member of the United Transportation Union. Chuck was a 32nd degree Mason and a 65 year member of the Willard Masonic Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council and Scottish Rite. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a gunner and flight engineer on B-17’s. During his time in the Air Corps, he was hitchhiking to LA and received a ride from Shirley Temple.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeri Mullen Laser; his grandson, Andrew Clark and his grandson’s girlfriend, Jaclyn Upperman; brother-in-law, Mike Lawrence; several nieces and nephews; and special helpers, Deb Rohrbach, Val Robinson and long time barber, Ron Stang.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Eberly) Mullen in 2006 and his parents.
Friends may call on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard from 5:00 to 8:00 PM where a Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 PM. A graveside service with military rites will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 9:30 AM at Maple Grove Cemetery. Donations in memory of Chuck can be made to the Willard Masonic Lodge or the Willard Senior Center. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.secorfuneralhomes.com.
