William E. Schaaf, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at his home. He was born on November 22, 1915 in Venice Township in Seneca County, Ohio to the late Ralph and Matilda (Herr) Schaaf. Bill was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington. He was self employed in farming and retired at age 90. He enjoyed family vacations that covered many miles in a few days.
He is survived by three sons, Stephen L. ( Barbara) Schaaf of Attica, James A. (Judy) Schaaf of Attica and Thomas M. (Sue) Schaaf of Bluffton, Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Theresa, Eric, Jacob, Jaime, Jarrod, Sarah, Michael and Abigail; 5 great grandchildren, Samantha, Adam Bill, Adalyn, Carys and Sonnet; special friend, Vera McClure.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Wilford) Schaaf and 2 sisters.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington, Ohio. Dear Steve, Jim, and Tom. I am so very sorry to hear of your father, Bill’s passing. In my mind’s eye, I can see all of you and your mom, too at the large table in Chatfield at the big old homestead where we once shared a Christmas dinner. It was such a great time. He will be missed. May you all be comforted by our loving God at this time.
Steve, Jim, and Tom and families – My thoughts are with you in the loss of your dad and grandfather. I have many precious memories of my growing up years on our farm nearby and the church that included you fellows along my brothers and sister. Blessings always.
Tom and Dorothy Miller of New Washington extend sincere sympathies to the Schaff brothers and their families. Bill was a lively person and we enjoyed visiting with him at Gus and Maggies and at St. John’s church.
We especially enjoyed his childhood recollections of moving the haunted house.
Theresa & Eric, My sympathy for the lose of your grandfather. Memories are the best gift we are given, times such as these make them all the more precious. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
